Budapest will be BLUE! – Join us for the Budapest Anomaly on June 15th 2024

Join us and experience an unforgettable adventure in June!

Budapest: a city that goes by many names – the Pearl of the Danube, the City of Baths, and recently, the Party Capital of the continent.

But for Ingress players, it’s known as the City of Resistance, where history is made whenever the global Resistance calls.

Reminiscing about the epic ViaLux event in 2016, the intense global shard event in 2017, the thrilling DarkXM challenge in 2018, and the battles of Kythera and Kureze in 2022. Now, it’s time to continue this glorious history and write new chapters filled with friendships, excitement, and victory.

Resistance Hungary warmly welcomes you on the weekend of June 15th, to fight alongside of your teammates and witness the resilience and pride of locals and while the strategic gameplay takes the center stage. But amidst all the action, don’t forget to savor the little and big things that make this amazing city truly special – its rich cultural heritage, indulgent thermal baths, mouthwatering cuisine, and vibrant party scene. This June, come together with both old and new friends in Budapest and let the adventure unfold!

About Budapest

Why Budapest?

Affordability: Compared to some other popular European cities, Budapest offers relatively affordable accommodation, dining, and activities. You can find budget-friendly hotels, guesthouses, and hostels that cater to a range of budgets, allowing you to enjoy your weekend without breaking the bank.

Currency Exchange Advantage: The Hungarian Forint (HUF) often offers favorable exchange rates for international tourists, making your money go further in Budapest. You can enjoy excellent value for your currency when exploring the city, dining out, and shopping.
Currency exchange while writing this is: 100 € = 39.340 HUF / 100$ = 36.362 HUF

World famous hospitality: Budapest is known for its delicious cuisine, which includes both rich traditional local food, as well as modern, healthy options. You can savor local street food, dine in cozy local restaurants, without spending a fortune.
Majority of venues feature English and German menu, locals are helpful, friendly and often speak multiple East- and West European languages.

Allrounder attractions for all: Budapest has a rich heritage in culture, architecture and spas; and the same Budapest is known for being the party capital of the continent. Either you seek for family getaway or dance your shoes off, all these are just at your fingertips.

Game experience: The awesome portal density of Budapest provides opportunity to every game style – very well designed missions leading you through plenty portals along with nice routes; public transport lines passing through dense areas for comfort lovers; huge influx of new portals for returning visitors.

Terrain and weather: majority of our visitors spend most of the times on Pest side, which is flat and has spacious streets. On the Buda side the Castle hill is easily approachable either on foot or by public transport, so does the Gellert hill.
The Danube in between gives an awesome look of both sides from the bridges and serves as a fresh air tunnel. This gives a mild, pleasant climate in all seasons. Junes are usually in mid twenties with low chance of rain.

Where should I stay in Budapest?

For those who would like to saty in the heart of the city and close to the major game event, we recommend the Pest side, close to the tram line 4 and 6 or metro lines.

How do I get around in Budapest?

Budapestis a public transportation-oriented city: so you won’t need a car to get around the city, you can get anywhere faster with various modesoftransportation. Everyone can find their favorite, or the way to collect the most unique captures.
In Budapest, there is an integrated transportation system in place. This means that within the city limits, passes not only
allow the use of local buses but also most suburban buses and trains.
From the airport, there is a direct bus service to the city center (marked as 100E). Separate tickets must be purchased.

Pro tip: use the BudapestGO app for trip planning, live traffic information and for electronic ticket.

If you still choose individual transportation, we recommend choosing an easily usable companion for yourself: whether it’s a scooter, a bike, or a car-sharing vehicle. With these, you can combine different modes of transportation much more efficiently, so you can reach your destination faster.
Currently, in Budapest, you can choose from 3 scooter-sharing, 1 bike-sharing, and 3 car-sharing services. Among these, internationally recognized companies like Bird, Lime, and Tier offer electric scooters for rent and MOL Bubi has a wide pick-up/drop-off network of bike-sharing.
If you are considering using bike-sharing or car-sharing, it’s worth registering at least 1 week in advance to get approval for using the service!

If you partially use a car or arrive with one, we still have some fantastic advice for you! While for many, the best way to explore a new city is by car, in the downtown area, traffic and parking can be extremely challenging. If you absolutely want to use a car, then be patient and very cautious with other drivers.

About the Anomaly

What is an Ingress Anomaly?

An Anomaly is a FREE city-based Ingress event hosted by Niantic and passionately supported by our dedicated local organizing team. Anomalies have been taking place all around the world since 2013, and we’re thrilled to announce that Budapest will be hosting one in June 2024. The main anomaly event is scheduled for Saturday, but there will be related activities and gatherings happening throughout the weekend.

The Budapest Anomaly event itself will span approximately 3 hours, encompassing 3-4 hours of exhilarating gameplay. Following the anomaly, there’s also an optional social meetup at a Resistance afterparty to celebrate a day of intense competition and camaraderie.

Whether you’re a seasoned anomaly veteran or a new agent eager to learn the ins and outs of Ingress, there’s a place for you with the Resistance at the Budapest Anomaly!

Our dedicated Resistance organizers are working tirelessly to ensure that every agent’s needs are met. We’ve curated assignments for both fast-moving teams and those who prefer a slower, more strategic approach.

No matter your preferences, you’re a vital part of our team, and we value your participation!

The Resistance organizers are here to assist with travel and accommodation advice, party planning, merchandise, and coordinated strategies for Resistance players. Our goal is to make your anomaly weekend an unforgettable and immersive experience!

Anomalies offer a multitude of unique opportunities, including:

Exploring the vibrant city of Budapest through the lens of an Ingress event.
Hacking numerous unique portals and adding impressive banners to your agent profile.
Meeting and celebrating with hundreds of fellow Resistance teammates.
Building new friendships with agents from around the world while reconnecting with old acquaintances.
Engaging in a strategic virtual battle like no other.
Earning or advancing your badges, including the coveted Budapest Anomaly badge.
Exploring the arts & local restaurants, while trading a plethora of swag and, of course, indulging in delicious food and refreshments.

How does it fit in with the global battle?

Apart from being a great reason and opportunity to explore new places and meet awesome people, Ingress Anomalies are competitive virtual battles between the Resistance and the Enlightened.

Anomalies are typically part of a series, with wins for either faction determining the ultimate victor.

Why is there anomaly in Budapest?

Niantic chooses anomaly locations based solely on their own decision process.

We are excited about the opportunity to host a great event for all the Resistance agents in the wonderful city of Budpaset and can’t wait to make it a successful and fun day for everyone!

What type of gameplay challenges will there be?

We do not yet have official rules for the Budapest Anomaly, but will post them here once they are released.

Gameplay will likely consist of a combination of Battle Beacon and Shard play.

What do I do on the day?

In anomalies, we play in teams. This can be you and your friends, or we will assign you a team optimized to your speed and experience.

Your timetable will depend on your team’s assignment. Playing in a coordinated group helps us to coordinate everything on the day, and is the only way we can win the anomaly.

Once you register, we will explain the whole Anomaly and everything you’ll need to do on the day in detail.

Do I have to register with Niantic?

No, Niantic has changed how this works. You no longer need to register with Niantic to earn the anomaly badge.

We are not certain of the requirements for the Budapest Anomaly badge but if 2023 is any indication, it will be awarded once you have performed certain interactions with Niantic deployed battle beacons. (We will update you on the rules once they are released.)

Just be sure to register with the Resistance so that we can help make your experience and our chances of winning the best possible!

Can I be on a team with my friends?

You can create your own team with your friends after you have signed up. Many players sign up in groups that always go to anomalies together.

But it’s OK if you don’t know anybody yet. We can assign you to a team that matches your speed, language, physical capabilities and experience.

What time does the anomaly take place?

The Budapest Anomaly will take place on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, in the afternoon, with exact times to be announced closer to the date.

However, your team will be likely to meet up earlier in the day so that everyone can get to know each other.
